Gosan library competition, Daegu, South Korea This concept for a new public library in the city of Daegu, South Korea, is inspired by both the immediate site context and the nature of activities taking place within the building. In occupying a tree lined city square, the new building creates a new 'forest' of structural columns, visible through extensive glazed walling at ground floor level. The first floor is dedicated to public rooms, with generous window openings to allow views out and also some views in from passers by. To reflect the more private nature of rooms to the second floor, windows are smaller in size and feature mirrored glass.
