Wimbledon house conversion & extension
Project work undertaken whilst at Jonathan Tuckey Design. Conversion and extension to an Arts & Crafts period residence. I was involved from concept design to part-completion. The scheme involved extensive refurbishment of the existing four storey house and construction of a single-storey extension, housing a kitchen, utility and dining room. The project looked to provide a contemporary re-imagining of the architectural qualities synonomous with the arts & crafts period, in using a mix of materials each with individual texture and warmth, ranging from 'creased' handmade bricks on the new extension to bespoke leather-clad joinery to the interior. The unique form of the extension again echoes the arts & crafts period themes of 'solidity' and 'shelter'. All photographs © James Brittain.
